Today's Summary

Steam addresses discovery and AI cloning concerns as Nintendo showcases independent games and Warhorse investigates a cyberattack. Sony reveals November’s PlayStation Plus games, Activision details Modern Warfare 4 Season 1, and Hasbro appoints Dan Ayoub to lead Wizards of the Coast and digital games. Aloft and Conan Exiles Enhanced head to PS5, ANOMALITH launches, Sony reveals transparent accessories, and Rayman receives an Astro Bot costume.

Editor's Viewpoint

Discovery is becoming a defining test for game platforms. Valve’s latest comments describe a familiar tension: giving every developer access to an audience can also expose players to a flood of titles they struggle to evaluate. Random exposure at the start of Next Fest gives newcomers an opportunity, but the usefulness of that opportunity depends on whether players can find games they actually want to try. Valve has acknowledged the trade-off; the effectiveness of any future changes remains to be seen.

Nintendo’s showcase offers a different kind of visibility. A short, curated broadcast can introduce games such as Witchbrook and City of None to a large audience, while free demos let players form their own impressions. That attention is valuable, but it is also scarce: only a small fraction of independent releases can fit into a showcase. Neither a recommendation system nor a broadcast can guarantee a sustainable audience for every good game.

Today’s other stories show why clarity matters after discovery, too. Subscription claim windows, paid editions, upgrade eligibility and release dates all shape what players can actually access. Publishers should make those details easy to find and update them when plans change. And when a studio reports a security incident, readers deserve a clear distinction between what is confirmed and what remains unknown. In our view, useful game coverage should help people make those distinctions before it asks them to get excited.

Valve says it is working on Steam visibility as developers raise AI cloning concerns

Source: VGCDate: October 28, 2026Impact: Medium

Valve says a significant number of its staff are considering how to improve game visibility on Steam after developers raised concerns about discovery and AI-generated clones at a South Korean developer event. Steam business team members Tom Giardino and Marc Wilkinson said the company does not intend to decide which development tools creators may use. Giardino said reported extortion attempts would be examined, while noting that extortion is also a matter for law enforcement.

Wilkinson described how Steam Next Fest initially shows games at random, before personalized recommendations begin after two days. He said that approach offers developers a chance at exposure, while acknowledging that some low-quality games appear as a result. Valve’s stated preference is to improve discovery rather than exclude games based on how they were made. That leaves a difficult question for independent teams: how quickly the store can make original work easier to find as the number of releases rises.

Key Points

  • Developer concerns: Discovery and AI-assisted copying were raised at the event.
  • Store policy: Valve does not plan to prohibit games merely for using AI tools.
  • Next Fest: Games initially appear at random before recommendations are personalized.
  • Extortion: Giardino said reports would be examined and pointed to law enforcement.

Nintendo’s October Indie World presentation featured upcoming games for Switch and Switch 2, including Witchbrook, which is scheduled for January 28, 2027. The showcase also highlighted City of None, the action and puzzle platformer from Celeste co-creator Noel Berry and Liam Berry, for both systems in 2027. Sword of the Sea is scheduled for Switch 2 on October 29.

Four free demos were announced for Winds of Viridia, Haunted Paws, Petal Runner and RACCOIN: Chaos Max Edition. Warhorse Studios reports a cyberattack and begins investigating its extent

Source: PC GamerDate: October 27, 2026Impact: Medium

Warhorse Studios, the developer of Kingdom Come: Deliverance, says it has been hit by a cyberattack and is working with cybersecurity specialists to secure its systems and determine what happened. The studio’s chief executive Martin Frývaldský told Czech media that protecting employees, partners and the community was an immediate priority, according to PC Gamer’s report.

The developer has not disclosed the attack’s purpose, the information affected or its full impact. Warhorse has announced both a new Kingdom Come adventure and a role-playing game set in Middle-earth, but the available statement does not establish whether either project was compromised. The distinction matters: a breach announcement establishes an incident, not proof of stolen game builds, leaked player information or a change to release plans.

Key Points

  • Incident: Warhorse confirmed a cyberattack.
  • Response: Cybersecurity specialists are helping secure its systems.
  • Investigation: The company is still assessing the extent.
  • Unknowns: The studio has not disclosed what information was affected.
